The Sonderforschungsbereich (SFB) 948 at the University of Freiburg has made heroisation the subject of a twelve-year research project, examining the process in the past and present from a social, cultural, political and international perspective.

The exhibition Prinzip Held* (The Hero Principle) examines this phenomenon: heroes and heroines are not necessarily distinguished by their particular biography, but rather because they break boundaries, bend rules, fight battles, unite communities internally and define them externally - and are presented to a specific audience. Prinzip Held* highlights the impact of different combinations of these elements, from Alexander the Great to Greta Thunberg.

Sound Installations

Visitors pass through a field of images under the glare of the crowd.

Le Meta-Held

People operate a lever to inflate the textile structures. At the same time, a sound is triggered and broadcast throughout the Grandstand.

A Max MSP patch manages the triggering and real-time modification of the sounds when the levers are pressed.

Broadcasting is handled by Axoa, Ambisonic's broadcasting software.
