2026 - FOH Engineer

Florentina Holzinger's first opera performance, ‘SANCTA’, addresses the patriarchal structures of the Church.

After the soloists and choir, dressed in nuns' costumes, have performed Hindemith's expressive opera, a playful parallel with a church service develops: here, the Sistine Chapel becomes a climbing wall, God a robot and the opera a rock musical. In search of transcendence, body artists subvert religious topoi of crucifixion wounds, penetration, cannibalism and transformation, while stage magicians present their interpretations of biblical miracles.

Instead of discipline and sexual punishment, empowerment and sensual pleasure are celebrated; instead of condemning Susanna as a sinner, we stand in solidarity with her. The sacred mass becomes a spectacle and a true space of possibility where religious conventions are challenged in an attempt to renew them.
