Performance

Narva, the center of Estonians Russian-speaking minority, which comprises around 95% of the population, sits right on the border with Russia. It has a total of 53,982 inhabitants, of whom only 8% are under 10 years old and 55% are women.

For statistical purposes, people are regularly converted into pie charts, bars and curves - which are then used to make policy arguments or to create cost-benefit type economic strategies. What if these statistics had a face? What if the people of Narva were represented on stage by 100 people?

100% Narva takes the city official statistics and puts a human face on them, putting one hundred of its inhabitants who represent the entire population of the city on the stage. Each of them also speaks for himself: of his life, his joys and his sorrows.

In a fun way, this sampling of the city answered questions. In ever new constellations, they gave their faces to statistical figures. There appeared groups who had children, who wanted them, who were looking for work, who were on deposit, who let their money work for them, who had weapons and who had fled armed conflicts, who had been in prison and who were for the reintroduction of the death penalty.

Rolling out across the city for more than three months, 100% Narva began with the casting of a member who had to recruit another in 24 hours, who recruited another and so on - all according to specific criteria. age, gender, household type, geography, language and population group of this far eastern Estonian town.

100% Narva is an in situ concept. The sound must accompany the participants in their speaking. The sounds of the city are recorded beforehand and constitute the sound palette of the show which returns to tell the city, its inhabitants, its history. Here are some excerpts below:
