It's like that (if you want)

Theater

The arrival of a new civil servant – Mr. Ponza – arouses emotion in a small prefecture. Beyond the natural curiosity of the inhabitants, his behavior would intrigue anyone: he seems to sequester his wife and prevent his mother-in-law, Mrs. Frola, from going to see her daughter. He himself visits Madame Frola every day and is opposed to her seeing anyone. Why ?

Senior civil servant and next door neighbor of Ms. Frola, Agazzi absolutely wants an explanation. The old lady comes to give them herself – her son-in-law is crazy. In the meantime, Ponza runs up and declares that her stepmother is crazy. Who to believe? This family, a refugee after an earthquake, seems to be losing ground. Laudisi, a relative of Aggazi, is amused by all the hypotheses. All explanations are plausible. Curiosity increases as the comedy moves briskly toward an unexpected ending, which casually plays a trick on whoever followed the plot.

What do we know of things and people? What we see or what we think we see is often what we would like them to be. On this difficulty of defining reality, veiled as it is by subjectivity, Luigi Pirandello wrote in 1917 Così è (se vi pare) in French, let us translate: It's like that (if you want ).
